Two private sessions. You do the work on your own car, with an instructor beside you the whole way.
Why learn it this way
Never worked on a car? You are exactly who this class is for. Brakes can feel like a mystery, and shops know it. Here, you learn what is actually going on under your wheels, do the work with someone guiding you, and walk away knowing your car better than you did before.
- You do the work yourself, with an instructor beside you
- Everything you learn is what you will do at home
- Nothing is staged or theoretical
- We start with what brakes are and how they stop your car
- No tools or experience needed to begin
- Ask as many questions as you like, there are no silly ones
- Our price depends on the job, not on how much you replace
- If you only need pads, then that’s what we’ll do
- You see the worn parts for yourself and get a written recommendation
- Learn it once and pay only for parts every time after
- Know what a fair price looks like
- Skip the guesswork the next time a shop quotes you
- The right procedure, the right torque, the right order
- You learn how to check your work
- You leave knowing it was done right
- Talk to a mechanic without feeling lost
- Spot warning signs early, before they get expensive
- Skills that carry over to the next job
what it costs
Two sessions, and you only pay for what your vehicle needs. We confirm your exact price at the end of Session 1.
One flat price. We inspect your brakes and make your parts list.
Depends on what your vehicle needs. Pads only is the low end.
You purchase your own parts, so you only pay for what the job needs. We help you order the right ones.
Doing both axles? Save $50.
Want a number? One axle, start to finish, runs about $225 to $450 for both sessions, plus parts.
Estimate My Costquestions
Do I need any experience?
No. The class is built for beginners. We start with how your brake system works, and you do the work yourself with an instructor beside you the whole time.
How long is each session?
Session 1 is an inspection and parts ordering session and takes about 2 to 3 hours. Session 2 is the hands-on repair. We schedule it once your parts arrive and give you a time estimate at the end of Session 1.
Who buys the parts?
You do, so you only pay for what the job requires. In Session 1 we show you how to order the right parts and place the order together.
What if I only need pads?
Then that is what you do. Pads only is a normal, honest option, and the price reflects it. Rotors and calipers are replaced only if your inspection shows they need it, or if you want them.
What if my rear drums are stuck?
It happens. Rear drums can be stubborn, so we use a time limit in Session 1. If a drum will not come off, we free it at the start of Session 2 with the right tools, and the Session 2 price already allows for it.
Can you work on my vehicle?
Most cars, trucks and SUVs with standard brakes. Not sure? Send us the year, make and model and we will tell you.
How do I book?
Use the Book Session 1 button, or email griffin@knuxgarage.com or call 585-490-8310 with your vehicle and a few days that work for you.
Estimates cover instruction only. Parts are purchased separately.
